Lawn Installation in Southern Wisconsin

Sod, seeding, hydroseeding, grading, and full lawn renovation. We prepare the ground right so your lawn actually grows.

What We Do

Great Lawns Start With Great Groundwork

Martinez Landscaping handles every step — from rough grading to finish work to sod or seed installation — so your new lawn has the foundation to thrive from day one.

Whether you’re starting from bare dirt on a new build, repairing a patchy lawn, or correcting drainage issues that have plagued your yard for years, we fix the underlying problems before we install. Shortcuts at the grading stage cause failures at the finish line — and we don’t take them.

  • No subcontractors — our own crew does the work
  • Proper grading and drainage built into every installation
  • New construction ready — from rough grade to finished lawn
  • Licensed and insured in the State of Wisconsin

How It Works

Our Lawn Installation Process

Every installation follows the same four-step process — because what’s underneath the lawn matters as much as what’s on top.

1

Site Evaluation

We assess grade, drainage, soil quality, and current vegetation to build the right plan. No assumptions, no surprises once the work starts.

2

Rough Grading

Establish proper grade and drainage flow. This is the foundation — we get it right before anything goes on top of it.

3

Soil Prep & Finish Grade

Topsoil amendment, tilling, and precise finish grading for a smooth, even surface that sets the sod or seed up to succeed.

4

Sod or Seed Installation

Install premium sod or seed with straw cover as appropriate. We walk you through startup watering guidance before we leave.

FAQ

Common Questions About Lawn Installation

What’s the difference between sod and seeding?+
Sod gives you an instant lawn — great for curb appeal, erosion control, or when you need results fast. Seeding is more economical for large areas and gives the grass time to establish deeply. Both produce excellent lawns when the grading and soil prep are done right.
How long before I can use a seeded lawn?+
Most lawns are ready for light use in 6–8 weeks and full use after 3–4 months. Sod is usable within 2–3 weeks once the roots have established. We’ll give you specific guidance based on your soil and the season.
Do you handle drainage problems before installing a lawn?+
Yes. We often address drainage and grading as part of the same project — there’s no point in installing a beautiful lawn over poor drainage. Fixing the drainage first protects your investment and prevents the same problems from returning.
Can you do new construction sites?+
Absolutely. We work on new builds regularly, from rough grading through to finished sod or seeded lawn. We coordinate with builders on grade and drainage requirements and can work around construction traffic and timelines.
What seed blends do you use?+
We use Wisconsin-appropriate blends based on sun and shade conditions — primarily Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, and Tall Fescue mixes. We select the blend based on your site’s specific conditions, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Do you offer financing for larger lawn projects?+
Yes. We work with Wisetack to offer financing from 0%–35.9% APR depending on credit. You can prequalify with no impact to your credit score. Many customers finance full lawn installation and grading projects in the $3,000–$15,000 range.
